AR/Accoflex

AR/Accoflex is an elastomeric nitrile rubber foamed insulation that is produced in pre-formed sheet and pipe sections. It does not contain CFC or HCFC gasses and has an ozone depletion potential of zero.

AR/Accoflex is a closed cell insulation which means that many thousands of tiny air bubbles are encapsulated within the material, each one complete and separate from the next one. These small cells of stationary air act like a vacuum by preventing
convection currents. This means that the closed cells within the material produce a lightweight and flexible insulation with low thermal conductivity – a major benefit of AR/Accoflex insulation.

However, the thermal conductivity
l value of fibrous insulation and partial cell material such as expanded polystyrene, is dependent on density. When the density of these materials is lowered, the l value is increased unlike nitrile rubber, where the
l value is virtually unaffected by density on account of its closed cell structure.
The efficiency of AR/Accoflex insulation to prevent condensation and minimise heat gain over a time span, measured in years, is dependent upon the initial thermal conductivity and the effective performance of the vapour barrier - the purpose of which is to minimise the ingress of water vapour into the insulation - so that any change in the thermal conductivity value over a long period is very small.
